How They relate Today
Night of Broken Glass was an unfair wreck but there are still examples of it today. Vandalism is a crime that destroys someone’s property without permission. Riots, rebellious teens, or people trying to be funny can be accused of vandalism. Even if it’s not as serious as wiping a group of people, simply “egging” or “t-ping” someone’s house is vandalism.
For example, in 2017 a Holocaust museum in Boston, Massachusetts was vandalizes. A 17 year old boy had thrown a rock in a glass panel that had the tattooed numbers of Jewish prisoners in concentration camps. He was charged with willful destruction of property. They were investigating his motive of why.
Night of Broken Glass and vandalism today relate because Nazis would throw rocks and break windows and beat people up. The teen in that story did a similar thing. And they both didn’t have to clean it up. The victims did. They did it without permission and hurt a lot of people, either physically and/or emotionally.
Kristallnacht is a story that should never be forgotten and should break the hearts of people who hear about it as it broke the hearts of those who lived through it.
